Championship Points
A qualifying pull(s) is required to earn the following points of weight pulled per pound.

Steel Rail Cart System is the truest form for recording what a dog is actually pulling. All dogs that compete on the steel rail cart system will earn one
(1) point per body pound.
Example 60 times the dog's body weight pulled equals 60 points.
Equation: 60 times the body weight =60pts.

Inflated Wheeled Cart System is another form of pulling weight that produces more drag but is commonly used because its mobility of equipment
and gear can be easily transported. All dogs that compete on the inflated wheeled cart system will multiply 1.5 per body pound pulled.
Example 60 times the dog's body weight pulled multiplied by 1.5 equals 90 points.
Equation: 60 multiplied 1.5 =90pts.

On Snow using sledding devices is yet another form of pulling in the world of Weight Pulling
Sports. All dogs that compete on the snow using sledding device system will multiply 2.5 per body pound pulled. Example 60 times the dog's body
weight multiplied by 2.5 equals 150 points.
Equation: 60 multiplied 2.5 =150pts.

WEIGHT PULL
Weight Pull
Pulling weight to measure raw strength
The Weight Pull is the final word when determining who is the strongest dog. It is plain and simple. It is also a
competition that measures the strength of a dog. When signaled by the judge, dogs must have pull harness on
before stepping onto the pull track. Then dogs are connected to the pull cart of choice and pull the weight.
Awards are given based on pound for pound in each class. There are 2 classes in the weight pull: Rookie and
Champions. After enough points are accumulated the dog earns a higher degree of championship and awarded
the appropriate title. All points awarded must be proven on an approved AAPBA track at an AAPBA competition.

The Weight Pull rules are designed for fairness in competition and for the safety of the dog
and its owners. These rules must be followed to avoid disqualification.

2. All dogs must wear a chain choke collar at all times.
3. All dogs must be 5 feet apart at all times.
4. Starting weights are decided by owner. All start weights are final and no changes can be made.
5. Dogs must be leashed and held by owner at all times until harness is connected and disconnected to cart
lanyard. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
6. No altering the length of cart lanyard.
7. Dogs must pull in a forward direction. Time will start when jugde gives command ready pull.
8. Weight must be pulled in 1 minute 40 seconds.
9. If you or the judge believe that your dog needs a leash applied to pull, it must hang loosely.
10. Every dog has 3 skips and 3 fouls for the entire event.
11. Dog is dismissed from the competition after 3rd foul.

Calculating the Pound for Pound Equation
Below we provide the written equation and the calculation process to determine the pound for pound solution, followed by examples in both written
and visual form. The solution is highlighted in
red.

Weight dog pulled divided by dogs weight equals the pound for pound pulled.

Examples: If the dog pulled 2000lbs and the dog weighs 50lbs the pound for pound solution is 40 times the body weight pulled.
